Destruction of Iraqi heritage by IS flayed
The Kingdom has condemned the Islamic State group for targeting innocent civilians and destroying cultural heritage in Iraq.
The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman on Monday at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh, slammed the extremist group for the destruction of centuries-old items in Mosul.
Minister of Culture and Information Adel Al-Toraifi said in a statement after the meeting that the Cabinet had called on the international community to take action against the perpetrators of such criminal acts.
Al-Toraifi said the ministers also had discussions on the deteriorating situation in Yemen, and had urged Yemenis to support the ousted president, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who is now in Aden.
Hadi should be allowed to perform his constitutional duties, so that he could resurrect the peace process and help the country move out of its current perilous state, said Al-Toraifi.
The Cabinet also slammed Israel for its continued actions to deny the Palestinians their legitimate rights. It called on the international community to rally behind the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
King Salman also briefed the council on his recent talks with a number of Arab leaders who visited the country recently including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, King Abdullah of Jordan, and President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine.
