Psychopathy and sociopathy are both related to antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), but they are not the same. While both psychopaths and sociopaths exhibit a disregard for the rights of others and a failure to conform to social norms, there are distinct differences in their behavior, emotions, and relationships with others.

Psychopaths are often characterized by a lack of empathy and remorse, a tendency for manipulation, and a superficial charm that can deceive others. They are calculated and can often blend into society undetected. They may engage in criminal activities but do so in a way that minimizes risk to themselves. They are unable to form genuine emotional attachments and may have a history of short-term relationships.

Sociopaths, on the other hand, tend to be more impulsive and erratic in their behavior. They may form attachments to a particular individual or group, but they still have a broad disregard for society and its rules. Sociopaths are less able to hide their behavior from others, making them more easily identifiable. They may display anger and hostility, and their actions are often more spontaneous and less meticulously planned than those of psychopaths.

The key difference lies in the conscience; psychopaths lack it entirely, while sociopaths may have a weak or skewed sense of morality. Understanding these differences is crucial for recognizing and dealing with individuals exhibiting these traits12345.
