DR. ZAKIR NAIK BANNED FROM U.K

Dr. Zakir Naik, a 44-year-old Indian television Muslim preacher, has been banned from entering the UK for his “unacceptable behaviour,” the home secretary Theresa May said, on Friday 06/18/2010. Zakir Naik had been due to give a series of lectures in London and Sheffield. Theresa May said that visiting the UK was “a privilege, not a right”.

The home secretary can stop people entering the UK if she believes there is a threat to national security, public order or the safety of citizens. But she cannot ban people simply because of their views.

Theresa May said: “Numerous comments made by Zakir Naik are evidence to me of his unacceptable behaviour.

This is the first person who has been excluded from the UK since Theresa May became home secretary last month.

Dr. Zakir Naik is based in Mumbai (Bombay) where he works for the Peace TV channel. He is recognised as an authority on Islam but also has a reputation for making disparaging remarks about other religions.

Peace TV itself describes him as “a medical doctor by professional training… and a dynamic international orator on Islam and comparative religion”. “Dr Naik clarifies Islamic viewpoints and clears misconceptions about Islam using the Koran,” the channel’s website said.

Dr. Zakir Naik is the founder and president of IRF – The Islamic ResearchFoundation in Mumbai, which runs also a TV Channel, and a well known local Islamic Scholar and is used to travel and lecture in Islamic communities all over the world including UK in 2006. Dr. Zakir Naik often advocated a death sentence for Muslims in Muslim country, if they shoes to convert, for alleged “apostasy” (see – YOUTUBE).

Najibullah Zazi, suspected of plotting suicide attacks in the USA was, according to his acquaintances, inspired by Zakir Naik, who said in his ceremonies distributed in the web speaking about so called “enemies of Islam” that if the choice is between bin Laden and Uncle Sam. “If [bin Laden] is fighting enemies of Islam, I am for him”.

* In the Maldives, Mohamed Nazim, 38, had announced that he was not a Muslim at a lecture by Zakir Naik, in 05/2010. He was taken into police custody and capital punishment charges were considered against Mohamed Nazim for “apostasy”. On 05/28/2010 Mohamed Nazim has announced his “reversion” to Islam in order to save himself from the gallows.

* In early 02/2011 a broadcasting watchdog has confirmed it is investigating the satellite channel, broadcast in English and Urdu, after receiving a complaint from a viewer over its extremist messages.

Programmes on Peace TV, directed by Dr. Zakir Naik  have included praise for “mujahideen” fighting British troops in Iraq, labeled Jews as an “enemy of Islam” and made claims about The 9/11 terror attacks being an “inside job”.
