📚📖✒️ Gandhi and Nehru were heavily Westernized; they had a simplistic knowledge of Ancient Indian history, theology, philosophy, and culture—that is why Gandhi developed the belief that non-violence was Hinduism’s core principle, while Nehru became a secular fundamentalist.
Parallel to post independence political situation in India; D.S. Senanayaka and S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike also were westernized. Both of them had very little knowledge of Sinhalese Buddhist Civilization. Even J.R. Jayawardana lived the legacy of insecurities due to fear of separatist forces left by the British. It is evident from the constitution J.R. Jayawardana had drafted in 1978 which came into affect. All amendments done to the constitution ever since is based on the mentality of ‘defeat and compromise’.
Three musketeers; D.S, S.W.R.D, and J.R. accepted default mode (prevailed after western conquest ended) of the nation as; the mode of defeat and compromise. This proposition is prominent through out their political journey and policy implementations. Initially UNP was formed as a congregation for dialogue. Later forum was turned a political party to fetch power while it was being transferred from the British to the Sinhalese.
The correct procedure of power shift should have been the transition of power of governance to the sons of soil; whom the British have received the authority to govern Sri Lanka. Administrative powers were granted through ‘1815 Power sharing agreement’ the British signed with the Sinhalese leaders of the Buddhist monarchy. But the state fell into the control of westernized brown sahibs.
The fragmentation in the constitution still largely remains and needs immediate correction before strategic error affront sovereignty.
