Nurse accused of using 'preaching and not pills' to cure patientsA nurse has gone on trial charged with proselytising Christianity by refusing to give patients medicine and urging them to pray to Jesus to cure their illnesses.

Abu Dhabi Criminal Court was told how the Filipino woman preached the word of Jesus to patients and staff at a hospital in the capital in an attempt to convert them to Christianity.

It is claimed that on one occasion she left a patient crying out in pain rather than treating him. The nurse was detained after a number of patients complained about her actions.

“One day the woman refused to give medicine to a patient and he began screaming for help,” testified a nurse.

She said she rushed into the patient’s room and heard the nurse telling the Muslim patient to convert to Christianity instead of giving him medicine.

“She told the patient that Jesus would cure him,” the witness added. The nurse said the patient complained to hospital administrators and requested the woman never attend to him again.

Another co-worker said in court on Tuesday that she had witnessed the woman preaching Christianity to staff and patients.

“She preached Christianity to me, saying it was the righteous religion,” said the woman. The woman added that she always argued with her Filipino colleague and had to defend her own religion, but the woman refused to listen and continued to preach.

“The Filipino once gave a copy of the Bible to a Muslim patient. The man was very annoyed and returned it to the section head,” said the witness.

The hospital’s legal affairs representative told the court that he received a complaint from one of the patients and they immediately investigated the issue. He said that the hospital administration reported the nurse to the police after they confirmed that she had been preaching Christianity to their patients.

The man said the management was left with no choice but to fire the nurse for her actions. The woman denies a charge of proselytising. The case was adjourned on Tuesday and is scheduled to resume on May 21.

  1. Good. You shouldn’t be preaching any religion when working in the Services Industry. Want to preach-go work in a religious school or religious house of worship.
