JEDDAH: A 42-year-old Saudi elementary schoolteacher charged with raping 13 girls aged 6 to 10 has been handed over to the Prosecution and Investigation Commission (PIC) for further questioning before he stands trial, Jeddah police announced Wednesday. The police said DNA tests and statements from seven of his victims as well as eyewitnesses strongly suggested he was responsible for carrying out the horrific attacks over three years from 2008.

One of his victims, a nine-year-old girl identified as B.A., told Al-Madinah newspaper that she was standing with her back to a pillar in a shopping center when her attacker approached her, claiming he was an employee of the center and telling her it was prohibited to loiter.

She said he asked her to follow him to the administration office so he could help her. She said he stopped halfway and told her they would go to the other side of the center. She became suspicious when he took her out of the center but he reassured her and promised he would call her mother to the administration office.

“When we reached his car, he became rough, grabbed my hand, forced me to get in and told me to keep quiet otherwise he would beat me. He asked me to lie down on the back seat and not show my head. He stopped at his house, told me that we would go up for few minutes and then he would take me back to the center,” she said.

The victim, in tears at this point, said the moment they entered his apartment, he started raping her violently and would not listen to her cries and pleas. “He did this to me several times and after two hours took me out and dropped me off at Al-Jamia Street.

The victim’s father added that he then received a call from an unfamiliar number. When he answered it, he was shocked to discover it was his daughter. “I took a police officer with me and found her devastated and in complete shock,” he added.

Another victim said she was on a bed in an emergency ward at a southeast Jeddah government hospital when a man came to her and told her that her father had asked him to take her to the car park lot. She said that when she did not see her father in the parking area, he told her to get into the car and he would go to look for him. “He then started his car, asked me to lie down on the backseat and not say a word. He stopped at his house, asked me to get out, took me inside and raped me several times,” she said.

A third victim, identified as M.A., said a man took her from a wedding hall at the time dinner was being served and when there was no security.

“He came to me and told me that he had a box of jewelry in his car for the bride and asked me to take it to her,” she said.

The victim said when she reached his car, he asked her to get inside so he could drive to another car where he was supposedly keeping the box. She said when she became suspicious, he asked her to stay quiet, keep her head down or he would beat her up.

“He took me to his apartment and raped me violently several times and would not listen to my cries and pleas. I told him my father was a cancer patient and my mother had hypertension but he would not listen.”

Her father added that when his daughter disappeared, he had suspected staff in the hall and also thought she might have fallen into a water tank.

“The Civil Defense looked with us everywhere in the hall. The next day at about 2 p.m., after 16 hours, I received a call from her asking me to come and pick her up.”
