Subject: Rosie Senanayake says Buddhist dominance should be done away with
JHU Condemns strongly on UNP?s Rosie Senanayake?s statement on removing Buddhism?s status from it?s present position
JHU condemns in the strongest possible term the supposed statement made by UNP?s Central Committee Member Mrs. Rosie Senanayake to the media. This statement says that the Sinhala Buddhist dominance should be done away with and the foremost place given to Buddhism should be removed !!!
This lady was a Catholic by birth and later converted to a fundamentalist Evangelical Christian sect.
The JHU request the UNP to immediately state whether this is the official position of the party and if not what action the leadership is taking on this notorious beauty-queen turned politician.
She was appointed by the then UNP government of 2001-2004 as the High Commissioner of Malaysia and is presently the UNP organizer forColombo West.
JHU points out even the British accepted the foremost place to Buddhism in the Kandyan Convention signed in 1815. The present Constitution under Chapter II clause 09 of very clearly states the following.,
?The Republic of Sri Lanka shall give to Buddhism the foremost place and accordingly it shall be the duty of the State to protect and foster the Buddha Sasana?
Historically Buddhism had a great influence in our culture and civilization. Sri Lanka (Sinhale) is the centre point in Theravada Buddhism in the world. Regrettably under the new leadership of Ranil Wickremasinghe the UNP has taken a course to discredit and destroy the prominence Buddhism enjoys in this country. The LTTE Terrorists too wanted the prominence given to Buddhism removed in the Northern & Eastern provinces in their Interim proposals submitted in 2003. These two parties have joined hands in a clandestine plot to destroy Buddhism in Sri Lanka the JHU states. The rise in non-Buddhist in the rank and file of the UNP is a disturbing development and Ranil Wickremasinghe assuming as the Asia Pacific Chairman of the International Democrat Union (IDU)? a Christian & like minded organization.
